Drop impact test ASTM G73-10 (2017)
The test in accordance with ASTM G73-10 (2017) is used to investigate damage caused by repeated liquid droplet impact on the component surface. The test rig at ISAF is configured in accordance with this standard and is suitable for a wide range of materials. It is suitable for testing wear mechanisms on rotors subjected to liquid droplet impact, such as helicopter rotors, turbines, or wind turbines. In addition, it can be used to test static components, such as facade elements, that are subject to droplet impact.
To simulate damage caused by droplet impact, the test rig uses a high-pressure water jet through which the specimens are guided in a controlled manner (Figure 1). The parameters can be varied over a wide range and documented online.
