Hydroabrasion test
Hydroabrasion refers to damage to component surfaces caused by a fluid flow carrying solid particles. The hydroabrasion test uses a high-pressure water jet into which solids are introduced to simulate damage caused by liquids containing solids. The angle at which the water jet strikes the material surface has a significant influence on the damage. A test rig has been set up at ISAF (Figure 1) that enables wear testing at various angles of incidence. In addition to the angle, the jet velocity can be adjusted over a wide range. The solid particles can be selected according to customer specifications.
